Touring Perth

My booked tour of the highlights of Perth was cancelled because there weren't enough people on it, but fortunately I had the opportunity to be taken on a personalised tour by an experimental  tour company. The tour driver's name was Mark and the tour director was called Angela.

Driving into Perth itself the entertainment provided by the tour company was quite hilarious. After only a moderate amount of swearing, name calling and complaining back and forth about directions and driving and passenger behaviours  the driver and director did get us to Kings Park.

Upon arrival we transversed the roundabout a number of times accompanied by some heated debate about where to park.

Struggling through the immense heat (and we had gone early to avoid the worst of it) we walked down to the memorial and the lookout from there.

The views of Perth city were pretty spectacular.

The tour director insisted I take a photo of her and the driver in front of the view

... and then that the driver took one of me and her

Getting very familiar this director was!

After soaking up considerable air conditioning in the gift shop we ventured back outside. The driver was directed to go and get the tour vehicle and bring it to us while we waited in the shade.

Here he comes:

NOT THIS ONE!

THIS ONE!

Driving through the park, there was extensive bushland, and a few lovely park and picnic areas.

After the tour director thoughtfully  running into a cafe for refreshments to be consumed along the road we were driving down through the city and over to South Perth.

Viewing of Perth from the opposite angle proved just as spectacular.

The now obligatory shots of the driver and director again.

Driving around looking at car washes and places where the tour driver previously lived added to the personalised flavour of this tour!

And next it was up the hill to Kalamunda to see the city from yet another viewpoint.

And then down the "zig-zag" track the trains used to take. The driver and director both did their best to imitate the train ride as it would hose been in the past.

A slight hint of carsickness was starting to set in after many zigs and zags down the dusty road in the 40 degree heat! (Thank goodness for air conditioning.)

Back onto the main highway and nearly back to Stoneville when we detoured through a national Park to see another view of Perth. As we wove further and further into the bush and the car sickness became more it seemed my director and river were maybe a little unsure where they were going to come out. At this stage I was informed the cost for the tour was increasing as it was now taking longer!)

However the extra 10 minutes was made all the more worth it by seeing a kangaroo in the wild.

After that it was a quick trip back to the main road and back to Stoneville where chicken salad sandwiches were made for all before a much needed hour or two in the pool.

What an obliging tour driver and director. (And brother-in-law and sister)
